Baltimore Safe Haven is Maryland’s first and only community-based health and housing organization developed by and for transgender people living in survival mode.
Baltimore Safe Haven is the revolutionary vision of founder and executive director Iya Dammons , a proud Black, trans-woman with lived experience of how failed systems, transphobia and racism lead to life-threatening outcomes for transgender people of all ages.
Through her unique experience, she leads a vision to directly meet the urgent needs of TLGBQ people in Baltimore City experiencing homelessness, substance abuse, survival sex work, poverty, neglect, incarceration and violence.
We operate the only transitional and emergency housing program for transgender youth and young adults in Maryland.
Our free drop-in health and wellness center, overnight mobile outreach operation, civic engagement work and incarcerated siblings program enables us to meet community directly where they are. Our work has been featured in local and national publications, including TIMEMagazine, The Advocate, WashingtonBlade, OUT Magazine, MSN, Okay player, Baltimore Magazine and Business EqualityMagazine.
