Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans in Texas learned of their freedom – more than two years after the Emancipatioon Proclamation.  As we raise the Juneteenth flag, we honor the resilience, contributions and achievements of African Americans and reflect on the continuing pursuit of liberty, justice and opportunity for all.  The ceremony marks not only a celebration of African American freedom, but also a recognition that the story of freedom in the United States is strengthened when every person can fully share in the promise.  We celebrate history, community, culture and freedom.
